Following a 3-0 weekend at the Virginia Duals, Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore B.C. LaPrade has been named ACC Wrestler of the Week. The 157-pounder improved to 11-5 on the season with his impressive weekend. LaPrade won all three of his matches at the Virginia Duals in Hampton last weekend, leading the Hokies to the tournament championship. Two of his victories were by decision while one was via a fall. He started his weekend with a 7-0 decision over Chattanooga’s Ryan Resnick on Friday morning. Taking on previously-ranked No. 6 Larry Early on Saturday, LaPrade found himself behind 2-1 in the first period. He used a toss to score a takedown and two near fall points, taking the lead. Another takedown in the third period gave LaPrade an upset victory over Old Dominion’s 157-pounder. With the Hokies facing Virginia in the championship, LaPrade only improved on his earlier performances. The New Kent native pinned UVA’s Jake Keating in just 43 seconds to secure his third win of the weekend. LaPrade’s strong weekend moved him to 6-1 on the season in dual matches and earned recognition from the ACC. The award is the second of his career, with his first coming during the week of Nov. 22 in the 2017-18 season. He also found himself in FloWrestling’s rankings for the first time this season, coming in at No. 16 in the 157-pound weight class. The Hokies now have seven wrestlers ranked in FloWrestling’s poll including every starting wrestler from 157 to 285 receiving a ranking. LaPrade and the Hokies will get their next test when they host ranked Pittsburgh at Cassell Coliseum on Jan. 25.
