2020 Three-Star DT Gary Smith Recaps His Virginia Tech Junior Day Visit

Gary Smith 1 Jan 2019
Less than two weeks after receiving an offer from Virginia Tech, 2020 three-star DT Gary Smith was among the Hokies' elite group of visitors for their first Junior Day of 2019. https://twitter.com/iamGS3/status/1086821588656373760 Smith told us that he had a "good" visit and "great experience" in what was his first trip to Blacksburg. So what stood out for Smith about VT while he was on his visit? "How much they care about their players' academics and future after college," Smith said. Smith said that he was able to watch film with some of the Hokies' coaches while also getting to see the Hokies' facilities both athletic and academic. Additionally, Smith also spent a lot of time with DL coach Charley Wiles and had a chance to build a stronger relationship with his potential future positional coach. "We have always had a pretty good relationship but me going to Virginia Tech this weekend allowed me to really get to know him," Smith said about the impact of his visit on his relationship with Charley Wiles. Looking ahead, Smith told us that he'll be visiting Vanderbilt this weekend, but doesn't have any other visits scheduled at this time. Virginia Tech left a strong impression on Gary Smith in his first trip to Blacksburg with the Hokies right in the hunt for the talented DT from Tennessee.
