The list of transfers just keeps growing for Virginia Tech. After wide receiver Eric Kumah and tight end Chris Cunningham announced their plans to transfer earlier this week, running back Deshawn McClease has decided to join them. The Hokies’ second-leading rusher in 2018 made his announcement on Twitter on Wednesday evening. “I am extremely thankful for Coach Beamer and his staff for recruiting me and giving me the opportunity to further my education and football career at such a prestigious university," McClease said in his post. "Additionally, I must recognize Coach Fuente and Coach Burden for everything that they’ve done for me during my journey.” [embed]https://twitter.com/saicko_slim/status/1088209777564499968[/embed] McClease plans to graduate from Virginia Tech in the spring and transfer to another university afterwards. McClease played in 11 games for Tech during the 2018 season. He ran the ball 96 times for 433 yards and two touchdowns. He trailed only Steven Peoples in terms of rushing yards on the season and was tied for third on the team in rushing touchdowns. The Chesepeake, Va. native has been a key contributor to the Hokies’ offense in recent years. In 2017, he ran for 530 yards and three touchdowns. McClease just finished his redshirt sophomore season and would have two more years of eligibility with the Hokies. While his presence will be missed on the offense, Tech has used a committee of running backs over the past few seasons, and his departure will give some of the younger players a chance to step up. Running backs Jalen Holston and Terius Wheatley each put in good performances last season and both are still underclassmen.
