Four-Star OT Michael Carmody Recaps His "Awesome" Virginia Tech Junior Day Visit

Last Saturday was loaded with elite visitors for Virginia Tech's first Junior Day of 2019 including 2020 four-star OT Michael Carmody who had this to say about his visit and what stood out about it. "It was awesome, me and my family loved it," Carmody said. "Getting to talk with Coach Vice and having him tell me exactly what his goals are for the program and for the o-line was pretty impressive." Carmody also has built a strong relationship with Vance Vice that only grew from his trip to Blacksburg. "We talk pretty regularly, and he’s been to watch me play basketball a few times. Saturday, I got to know him better and we’ve gotten pretty tight," Carmody said. That wasn't the only thing that stood out to Carmody as he also got to tour Virginia Tech's engineering facilities including the $90 million Gooodwin Hall which left a significant impression on him. "I visited the Engineering building which was incredible," Carmody said. "It’s what I plan on studying so to see it and have a student talk to me about the school was pretty sweet." So how did this visit impact his recruitment and Virginia Tech's standing in it? "Virginia Tech was already a school I was pretty interested in, I’d say the visit made me even more interested," Carmody said. Michael Carmody also added that he thinks "very highly of the program and school" though he doesn't have a leader in his recruitment at the moment. Carmody also told us that the Hokies and Penn State are currently recruiting him the hardest. Looking ahead, Carmody has plans to visit Michigan, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Duke with the HokIEs getting his first visit of 2019 last weekend. Going into Pennsylvania and beating out Penn State for one of the Keystone State's top recruits is always a challenge, but Virginia Tech is doing everything they can to make it a major battle between the Hokies and Nittany Lions for Michael Carmody with a strong visit to start 2019. However, VT has plenty of work ahead in their pursuit of one of their top 2020 offensive targets.

In the 2020 class, Carmody is ranked as the 166th best recruit by ESPN, 172nd best recruit in the country by 247 Sports and 196th best recruit by the 247 Sports Composite. At offensive tackle, Carmody is ranked 16th best by ESPN, 25th best by 247 Sports and the 247 Sports Composite, and 29th best by Rivals. All four recruiting rankings have Carmody ranked as the second best 2020 recruit in Pennsylvania.
