Virginia Tech Football Guide to National Signing Day 2019

IMG 2872 1
The 2019 recruiting class is almost set as we are hours away from National Signing Day 2019 with Virginia Tech still in pursuit of a pair of major targets in four-star OL Doug Nester and four-star LB Eugene Asante. Last year, the Hokies were able to make a big, late splash via four-star LB and now VT starting LB Dax Hollifield. This time, the Hokies will be hoping to add a pair of four-star recruits including another four-star linebacker. With that said, here's your guide to National Signing Day 2019 for the Hokies.

4* OL Doug Nester

Doug Nester will go first of Virginia Tech's two major targets as the four-star offensive lineman and current Ohio State commit will announce his final decision at 5pm on National Signing Day. https://twitter.com/Freshie74/status/1092831096092479488 Right now, Virginia Tech is my current prediction for the four-star offensive lineman from West Virginia after an official visit that appeared to go extremely well for the Hokies this past weekend. We'll have a final prediction on Nester tomorrow, but all signs are that the Hokies will beat out Ohio State and Penn State for Nester's signature. For the Hokies, it's odd to have a target announce this late in the evening let alone be the first of two evening announcements on National Signing Day, but all signs point towards it being worth the wait for Hokie fans.

4* LB Eugene Asante

After Doug Nester makes his commitment at 5pm, Eugene Asante will get to have his spotlight moment at 6pm with his commitment. https://twitter.com/sectorocho/status/1092560321594707971 Asante previously released a top 5 that included Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Maryland, Nebraska, and Florida State. Additionally, Asante took an official visit to VT before Signing Day and official visits to FSU and UNC the past two weekends. Right now, we're still leaning towards Virginia Tech with our pick based on what we've heard, but UNC and Maryland still appear to be in the hunt after UNC hosted Asante this past weekend along with it appearing that Asante made a brief unofficial visit to Maryland with some other talented 2020 recruits from Northern Virginia last week.

News & Notes

Doug Nester and Eugene Asante's decisions aren't the only headlines for Virginia Tech entering National Signing Day. Here are some other news and notes.

Virginia Tech Expects 2 Current Commits to Sign

After committing to Virginia Tech within the past week, three-star QB Knox Kadum and three-star JUCO DT Jaden Cunningham are expected to sign with the Hokies on National Signing Day. Cunningham should be able to come in and compete for playing time at DT while Kadum gives the Hokies' much-needed QB depth after the departures of Josh Jackson and Hendon Hooker.

Jahad Carter Will Not Sign

As we were told by Henrico High School, three-star ATH and VT's longest commit Jahad Carter will not sign on National Signing Day with the reasoning appearing to be academic-related per sources. You can see more on Carter and what could be the next steps for him here.

Virginia Tech Active on the Transfer Market

The Hokies won't be done adding players once their final 2019 signatures come in as the Hokies are also showing interest in the transfer market. That includes two-year Coastal Carolina interior OL starter Brock Hoffman who has lots of interest in the Hokies and is looking to visit "soon." You can see more on the Hokies' interest in Hoffman here.

Justin Fuente Press Conference Set For 1:15pm

Looking for what Justin Fuente thinks about Doug Nester and Eugene Asante should they commit to Virginia Tech? Don't expect any direct remarks tomorrow at least in a traditional format with his Signing Day press conference set for 1:15pm, hours before the announcements of Nester and Asante.
