Justin Pollock commits to Virginia Tech

LS Justin Pollock Commits to Virginia Tech as a Preferred Walk-On

Virginia Tech gained a major preferred walk-on commit today on special teams as in-state long snapper Justin Pollock announced that he has committed to Virginia Tech.

Pollock is rated as a 4.5-star long snapper by Rubio’s Long Snapping, the largest ranking service for long snappers. Additionally, Pollack is ranked by them as the 40th best long snapper in the country and top long snapper in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Pollock chose the Hokies over a PWO offer from Old Dominion and scholarship offers (to play LB or TE) from smaller schools including prestigious D3 program Mount Union.

Pollock had this to say about why he chose the Hokies.

“It’s because I built an awesome relationship with the coaches that feels like more than football and I feel I can be very successful,” Pollock said.

Pollock’s commitment comes weeks after the in-state long snapper visited Virginia Tech and had an “awesome” visit during which he “told the coach I want to commit but I want to pray over it for another week to make sure that’s what God has in store for me.” As we have now seen, Pollock decided to stick with choosing the Hokies over going elsewhere.

Given Oscar Shadley’s presence, it may be a few years before Pollock gets his chance, but this does give the Hokies and opportunity to develop a potential replacement from within. Pollock clearly has shown the potential based on the rankings and gives the Hokies some more depth along with another long snapper who has shown some athletic ability like Shadley given that he also had scholarship offers from smaller schools to play linebacker or tight end.

While Doug Nester was the headlined commitment of National Signing Day (and rightfully so), Virginia Tech also made several, solid preferred walk-on additions including the Commonwealth’s #1 long snapper, Justin Pollock.
