Elite 2021 CB Tony Grimes Recaps His Recent Virginia Tech Visit

Tony Grimes Jan 2019
Virginia Tech's second Junior Day of 2019 included a visit from elite 2021 CB Tony Grimes who may already be the Hokies' #1 target regardless of position in the 2021 class. The elite cornerback from the 757 had this to say about his visit to Blacksburg. "My Tech visit was really good. I enjoyed my time at Tech from start to finish and was glad to get back up with the coaches," Grimes said. Grimes told us that one of the things that stood out to him was his time spent touring the architecture buildings and hearing about the program with Grimes having this to say about what impressed him. "I loved their building layout and how everything is organized from freshman year to when you graduate. I loved hearing that they have different stages and you're just not thrown to the sharks," Grimes said. Grimes also told us that he spent some time with the coaches, tried on uniforms, and attended Virginia Tech's major basketball victory over Syracuse. That included spending time with Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente. "I sat down with the Head Coach and we talked about movies and family. Coach (Fuente) is a big movie guy. He loves scary movies. We just got to know each other personally," Grimes said about his time with Justin Fuente. Fuente also did have a main message for Tony Grimes. "His message was Virginia Tech is home and where greatness happens," Grimes said. Grimes also had a chance to spent some time with Virginia Tech CBs coach Brian Mitchell and had a position focused conversation. "Coach Mitchell is a great coach. We talked a lot about scheme, drills and what can make me a better DB," Grimes said about his time with Mitchell. Overall, this visit left a strong impression on Grimes ahead of his visits this past weekend to Texas A&M and TCU, both of whom also appear to pushing as hard as the Hokies are for Grimes. For now, what's clear is that Tony Grimes is arguably the #1 priority in the 2021 class for Virginia Tech with the Hokies making a strong impression in all aspects from football to academics to personal relationships.
