Virginia Tech managed to avoid being unranked, but still fell 11 spots in this week’s AP Top 25. The Hokies fell to No. 22 following an 0-2 week. The Hokies were ranked No. 11 going into a tough matchup on Monday night. They hosted No. 16 Louisville in Cassell Coliseum, and while they didn’t let the Cardinals get too far ahead, Tech still lost 72-64. The Hokies’ next contest came on the road at Clemson, where the surging Tigers were able to take a 59-51 victory. The tough week all but ensure the voters would drop Tech in the rankings. Virginia Tech beat writer Norm Wood of the Daily Press had the Hokies at No. 22 while Mark Berman of the Roanoke Times did not include Tech in his ballot this week. National voters were on the same wavelength. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports put Tech at No. 22 while Seth Davis of CBS and Sports Illustrated had the Hokies dropped out this week. Other ACC teams in the rankings this week include No. 2 Duke, who beat Virginia 81-71 on Saturday night. UVA fell one spot to No. 4 after the loss. North Carolina and Louisville stayed put at No. 8 and No. 16, respectively. Florida State moved up five spots to No. 17, and Tech rounds out the ACC teams at No. 22. The Hokies will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Georgia Tech before traveling to Pittsburgh on Saturday.
