Virginia Tech had a nice week to rebound from last week’s tough losses, and the Hokies were rewarded for their performance in the latest AP Poll. Virginia Tech moved up to No. 20 in this week’s AP Top 25. The Hokies picked up wins over Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh this week. They hosted the Yellow Jackets in Cassell Coliseum on Wednesday, winning 76-68 behind a 20-point performance from Ty Outlaw. They then traveled to Pittsburgh on Saturday, where they defeated the Panthers 70-64. This time it was Kerry Blackshear, Jr. with the big performance, as he scored 29 points and nine rebounds to lead the Hokies to victory. The ranking moves the Hokies back into the top 20 after dropping to No. 22 last week. ACC powers Duke (No. 1), Virginia (No. 3) each moved up one spot this week. No. 8 North Carolina stayed put as the third ACC team in the top 10. Florida State moved up one spot to No. 16 while Louisville dropped two spots to No. 18 following a 1-1 week. The Hokies will host another top 20 matchup tonight when Virginia comes to town. The Cavaliers won the first meeting between the teams 81-59 on Jan. 15. Tonight’s game tips off at 8 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.
