Virginia Tech Set to Host 2020 Three-Star DE Antwaun Powell, Three-Star WR Jalen Coit This Weekend

While much of the focus has been on Virginia Tech basketball's run to the Sweet 16, and rightfully so, Virginia Tech football kicked off spring practice last week with recruits starting to make spring visits across the country to see practices. This upcoming weekend, Virginia Tech football is set to host at least a pair of top 2020 targets in three-star DE Antwaun Powell and three-star Jalen Coit. Powell and Coit have previously confirmed to us that they will be taking visits to Blacksburg this weekend. While VT's biggest spring recruiting weekend is still to come two weeks from this Saturday for the Spring Game, there's no doubt that this will be a significant weekend as well in 2020 recruiting for VT. Antwaun Powell has been a priority in the 2020 class for a while for Virginia Tech with his offer list exploding recently to also include schools like Michigan (where he visited last weekend), Oklahoma, Penn State, Nebraska, and more. Powell has visited Virginia Tech multiple times including the Hokies' first Junior Day of 2019, a visit he described as "great." Now, Powell is looking forward to getting to spend some more time with the Hokies' coaching staff and see their vision for him as a Hokie should he choose Virginia Tech. "I want to chat it up with the coaches and see what they see me in the future as a Hokie," Powell said on what he hopes to see on his upcoming visit. While Powell doesn't have a leader at the moment, likely in part due to the recent rash of offers, it's clear that the Hokies are among the top contenders in Powell's recruitment with VT having a chance to cast a vision on what a collegiate career playing for the Hokies would look like. Meanwhile, Coit is a more recent offer for the Hokies but has quickly risen to the top of the board among their slot receiver targets since being offered at the beginning of this month. Coit may be in the mid three-star range for now, but that seems likely to change given his strong offer list that includes the likes of the Hokies, Penn State, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, and more. However, the Hokies have had a lot of success recently recruiting wide receivers from South Carolina with Jalin Hyatt committed in the 2020 class one cycle after signing Jacoby Pinckney. Those South Carolina connections could be something to watch as the Hokies pursue Jalen Coit. The Hokies are set for at least a pair of top 2020 targets to be on campus this weekend as the recruiting trail continues to heat back up with recruits takings visits to spring practices across the country.
