Virginia Tech hosted several top targets on campus today including three-star CB Andru Phillips who was offered on a Junior Day earlier this spring and enjoyed his second 2019 visit to Blacksburg.

“It was great. I loved everything about my visit from the facilities to the coaches,” Phillips said.
Phillips was specifically impressed by the energy of the coaching staff during today’s practice and scrimmage.
“I really paid attention to how much energy the coaches had at practice today and the type of ways the coaches coached, and I was really impressed by that,” Phillips said.
Phillips got an in-depth view inside the Virginia Tech football program not only getting to see practice but also getting to receive a facilities and see some behind the scenes position meetings. The three-star CB spent a lot of time with CBs coach Brian Mitchell and said his time with him was “great” and that he’s “building a good relationship with him.”
Overall, Andru Phillips came away from his visit with a higher view of Virginia Tech than he previously had.
“Virginia Tech has always been one of my favorites and after this visit, I just like them even more,” Phillips said.
Phillips also told us that Virginia Tech and Kentucky are standing out to home with the Hokies standing out specifically because the Hokies offer “great people” and a “good home feeling.”
Looking ahead, Phillips told us that he is close to trimming down his recruitment with plans to release a top 5 “within a week or so.”
After that, Phillips told us that he plans to commit on July 8th with VT likely hoping to bring him back on campus at least one more time before then. When Phillips does commit, he’ll simply be committing to the school he feels he “fits in best” at.
For now, the Hokies are in good shape after another “great” visit to Blacksburg for Andru Phillips, but still have some work to do in their battle with Kentucky and others for him.
