After days of speculation on how Mike Young's Virginia Tech basketball staff would come together, news has been breaking over the past couple of days on how the bench will look headlined by a pair of assistants with power conference experience. https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/1118124473725722625 First, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports is reporting that the Hokies are set to hire Kansas State's Chester Frazier. Frazier has been on staff at Kansas State since Bruce Weber took over in Manhattan, KS in 2012. He was also a graduate assistant for Bruce Weber for the 2010-11 season at Illinois, his alma mater. Frazier is a Baltimore native and not only brings East Coast recruiting connections, but also power conference recruiting experience that was something most considered a necessary for Mike Young to add. His East Coast recruiting connections also fit with Young's recruiting vision for making Virginia, and the Mid-Atlantic as a whole, a top priority on the recruiting trail. Frazier also already has a fan in another Baltimore native, former Virginia Tech star Malcolm Delaney. https://twitter.com/foe23/status/1118180657727930369 Having the approval of a former Hokie star like Delaney is definitely a great start for Frazier as he joins Mike Young in Blacksburg. Additionally, Young will also be retaining one of Buzz Williams' former assistants. https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/status/1117098030380068864 Jeff Goodman of Stadium and Mark Berman of the Roanoke Times both reported that the Hokies are retaining Christian Webster. Webster was the one assistant not to follow Buzz Williams to Texas A&M. This is a smart hire by Young as Webster has been considered a rising assistant while also being a good connection to the previous staff that could help the Hokies as they look to bring Wabissa Bede and Landers Nolley back into the fold after both entered the transfer portal. Mike Young is also bringing at least one of his Wofford assistants with him as well, though his role on the staff is unknown. https://twitter.com/CoachGiltner/status/1118147884841672704 Wofford assistant Kevin Giltner announced today that he is following Mike Young to Blacksburg to be on his staff. Giltner did not specifically mention what his role will be on Virginia Tech's staff. Giltner has been on Wofford's staff for the past six seasons, including the past five seasons as an assistant coach, while having played for Mike Young for four years before joining his staff. Wofford specifically mentions that Giltner primarily worked with the Wofford guards which would include Fletcher Magee, the NCAA's all-time leader in three-point shots made.
