Landers Nolley Will Stay at Virginia Tech

VT Cheerleaders Clemson 1
Redshirt freshman Landers Nolley announced today that he will be staying at Virginia Tech, removing his name from the transfer portal. https://twitter.com/therealdcunna/status/1118575220577710080 Nolley publicly announced that he entered the transfer portal on April 8th, less than a day after the announcement of Mike Young as the new head coach of Virginia Tech basketball. With Nolley back into the fold, Mike Young retains the centerpiece of Virginia Tech's 2018 recruiting class. He has not played a minute of college ball due to NCAA eligibility concerns leading to VT making the decision to redshirt him rather than try to use him for less than half of the season. That decision has also preserved a year of eligibility for Nolley which could prove valuable in the long run, and basically makes him a 2019 class member in terms of roster management. Looking ahead, Nolley appears poised to be one of Tech's most important players next season and likely an offensive focal point. Junior Wabissa Bede and graduate senior Kerry Blackshear Jr. are the Hokies who remain in the transfer portal. Nolley joins a roster that currently includes PJ Horne, Isaiah Wilkins, and Jon Kabongo while VT still has one committed recruit in four-star SF/PF Emanuel Miller. This is a huge pickup for Mike Young on a day when his three assistants were formally announced. Those assistant hirings include the retention of Christian Webster along with the additions of Kansas State's Chester Frazier and Cincinnati's Antwon Jackson. Being able to keep Landers Nolley gives the Hokies some much-needed momentum that could be valuable both on the recruiting trail and the transfer market given how Young has roughly 6-8 scholarships open. Now, the attention turns to Blackshear Jr. and Bede. An answer on Bede is likely to come sooner given how he has only entered the transfer portal whereas Blackshear Jr. has also entered the NBA Draft process with a final decision not likely to come for multiple weeks from the star big man. For now, the Hokies' 2019-20 outlook is a little brighter with the return of Landers Nolley to Virginia Tech.
