Virginia Tech Offers Four-Star OT Jake Wray

Offensive Line 1
With football coaches on the road evaluating recruits, Virginia Tech has extended plenty of new offers recently including one to four-star OT Jake Wray out of Marietta HS in Georgia. https://twitter.com/wrayjake77/status/1124661008608440325?s=19 "It was awesome, I’ve heard a lot of great things about the school," Wray said about his reaction to receiving an offer from Virginia Tech. Wray added that he received the offer from WRs coach Jafar Williams after Williams saw Wray practice the day before. Wray also says the offer does have a great impact on his recruitment and is looking forward to getting to know the Hokies better. "I think it impacts my recruitment in a great way. I am just glad to be able to get to know the whole staff and football team at Virginia Tech," Wray said. The fact that the Hokies are extending new offers to offensive tackles shouldn't be surprising to anyone. After taking one offensive tackle at most on Bryan Hudson last class which appeared to focus more on the interior, the Hokies could use a pair of offensive tackles in this class with Wray likely to be around the top of the board alongside four-star OT Michael Carmody. One interesting thing about Wray is the fact that his brother is former four-star and now Ohio State OT Max Wray, a connection that could at some point have some influence though Jake Wray says doesn't have an impact at the moment as he considers colleges. Wray also may not be too far away from making a decision as he told us that he plans to make his commitment sometime over the summer. When he does make that decision, it'll be based off of "just being able to see the best fit for me and not chasing the logo or anything of that sort." What's clear is that Virginia Tech will have an opportunity to become major contender for Jake Wray but also only have a limited time from this point to convince Wray to come to Blacksburg.

Jake Wray in the Recruiting Rankings

Nationally, Wray is ranked as the 247th best recruit by ESPN and 312th best by the 247 Sports Composite while those 2 rankings and Rivals have Wray rated as a four-star recruit. In the state of Georgia, Wray is ranked as the 26th best recruit by ESPN, 31st best by Rivals and the 247 Sports Composite, and 43rd best by 247 Sports. Among offensive tackles, Wray is ranked 27th best by ESPN, 30th best by the 247 Sports Composite, 36th best by Rivals, and 37th best by 247 Sports.
