Four-star PG Jalen Cone has been a top target for Virginia Tech for a while now whether it was Buzz Williams or Mike Young at the helm of the Hokies. Yesterday, Cone made a major announcement revealing his final 6 while setting a commitment date for later this week and reclassifying to 2019. https://twitter.com/J15Cone/status/1125179558087540736 Virginia Tech made the final 6 for Jalen Cone along with Tennessee, Texas A&M, NC State, Wake Forest, and Boston College. Cone's announcement is also set for this Thursday with the Hokies having a major opportunity to add a difference maker to their 2019 class. The timing of this decision appears to be a very good indication for the Hokies after Cone took an official visit to Blacksburg last week. Tennessee appears to be the biggest threat to the Hokies at this point with it being unknown if Cone intends to take his previously scheduled official visit to Knoxville which was slated to start this Friday, one day after his scheduled announcement. Cone would be a major recruiting victory for Mike Young and his staff given the heavy interest from teams like Tennessee, Texas A&M, and more teams with largely regional ties in power conferences. The four-star PG also should be able to come in and give the Hokies plenty of quality minutes next season should he choose Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech has put themselves in great shape for Jalen Cone, but there is still work to be done for the Hokies to land their biggest 2019 target as Mike Young puts this class together from scratch.
