The spring recruiting evaluation period continues to be in full sing with Virginia Tech offering a multitude of recruits including 2021 ATH Zakee Wheatley.

Unsurprisingly, Wheatley was quite excited about receiving a VT offer, his fifth of not only the month but his recruitment as a whole so far.
“I was very excited! It’s been a great couple of weeks for me recruiting wise and VT is one of my top schools anyway,” Wheatley said.
Wheatley added that all five of his offers are among his “top schools” while Maryland, Penn State, and Notre Dame are among the schools high on his list that haven’t offered him yet.
Wheatley received the offer from offensive coordinator Brad Cornelsen who saw Wheatley work out before offering the talented athlete from Severn, Maryland.
Zakee Wheatley brings plenty of versatility to the table having started at wide receiver last season and leading his HS team in yards per reception while also playing some in the secondary and having a couple interceptions. While Wheatley is more proven at wide receiver, the 6’3” athlete feels that his ceiling may be higher at defensive back given his size.
“I really love both positions. I would say I have more experience at WR but I think my size, length and ball skills gives me more a better advantage and is probably more rare at DB,” Wheatley said.
Unsurprisingly, receiving an offer from the Hokies is big for Wheatley not only because of VT’s status as a premier ACC program but also because of the DB legacy in Blacksburg.
“I think it’s big. Virginia Tech is a Power 5 school and having an opportunity to play DB there would be great,” Wheatley said.
Looking ahead, Wheatley told us that he plans to schedule a visit to Virginia Tech while he already has a visit scheduled to Virginia tomorrow followed by trips to Boston College, Michigan, and Michigan State during the first full week of June.
Zakee Wheatley is going to be a name to keep an eye as an intriguing, long athlete who appears to have the versatility and skills to either play wide receiver or defensive back at the collegiate level.
