Three Thoughts on Virginia Tech Basketball's Roster Construction including Wabissa Bede.

PG Wabissa Bede Will Return to Virginia Tech

For weeks, it seemed extremely likely that Wabissa Bede would be returning to Virginia Tech under new head coach Mike Young and today, Bede made it official.

Wabissa Bede informed several media outlets including The Tech Lunch Pail that he will be returning to Virginia Tech for his junior season. Bede started 26 games last season averaging 3.8 points, 2.3 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 25.3 minutes per game this season while developing into one of the best defensive players in the ACC.

Bede’s return gives the Hokies a veteran leader especially with Kerry Blackshear’s status continuing to be up in the air in addition to Nickeil Alexander-Walker heading to the NBA to be a top 20 pick this June.  On the defensive end, Bede is a major addition that will give opponents plenty of issues while the offensive potential is there as shown by how 35.4% from three-point range this past season.

Bede appears likely to be the starting point guard though it’s possible that he slides into a starting two guard role similar to Seth Allen with Jalen Cone having the talent to compete for a spot in the starting lineup or at least have a large role off the bench. Whatever the case may be, Bede not only should be a starter but arguably the centerpiece of a Virginia Tech roster that is starting to come together pretty well with the returns of Bede and Landers Nolley along with the additions of Jalen Cone and more.

The Hokies still have plenty of room as they await to hear what Kerry Blackshear decides to do along with their pursuit of 2019 recruits like John Ojiako and Nahiem Alleyne along with grad transfer targets including George Mason’s Jaire Grayer.
