Virginia Tech’s 2020 basketball recruiting has included Mike Young extending offers to the West Coast and three-star C Bradley Ezewiro. While pursuing a California recruit may seem like an almost impossible battle for the Hokies to win, Virginia Tech has a unique connection that has made VT a serious contender for Ezewiro.
Bradley Ezewiro is the younger cousin of former Virginia Tech star Terry Taylor who averaged 13.3 points and 6.9 rebounds from 2001-2003. Ezewiro’s VT connection and relationship with Taylor are a big reason why the Hokies have a shot and have a significant impact on his view of the Hokies in part due to Taylor’s long professional career overseas.
“It has a big connection. I love my older cousin and he mentors me a lot because he was a pro and if I can play where he played I can play pro later on,” Ezewiro said.
Likely in part due to that, Ezewiro told us that Virginia Tech is among the schools standing out in addition to the Hokies being his only ACC offer. Nevada is also among the schools standing out for the talented West Coast big man who averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds per game last season.
Ezewiro has also been having conversations with Virginia Tech about taking an official visit to Blacksburg as he begins planning where he will take official visits. Additionally, Ezewiro told us that he is looking at taking official visits to Nevada, TCU, Washington State, and Oregon State.
While most of the schools at the top of Ezewiro’s recruitment are also from the West Coast, location isn’t a factor currently for Ezewiro as he evaluates his future college decision.
“It’s not a factor at all. I just want a place where I can come in and make an impact,” Ezewiro said.
Looking ahead, Bradley Ezewiro told us that he’s hoping to make a decision sometime in January or February. When he does, it appears clear that his choice could be to follow in his older cousin’s footsteps and play at Virginia Tech.
