QB Braxton Burmeister Has Immediate Eligibility Waiver Rejected, Will Appeal

Helmet 1
After having no news on transfer QB Braxton Burmeister's immediate eligibility waiver pursuit at the start of fall camp, Justin Fuente was able to provide an update during today's press conference. https://twitter.com/RTD_MikeBarber/status/1159890370832060416?s=20 Burmeister's waiver request was rejected, but the Oregon QB transfer and his family will appeal the decision according to Justin Fuente. This is the second time that a transfer has had there waiver rejected and chosen to appeal after Coastal Carolina OL transfer Brock Hoffman had his first attempt for immediate eligibility rejected, leading to a currently ongoing appeal. In two seasons at Oregon, Burmeister threw for 373 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions while completing 49 of 87 pass attempts. 77 of those 87 pass attempts came during the 2017 season along with all of his touchdowns and interceptions. It is unknown at this time what the reasoning is for Burmeister pursuing a waiver for immediate eligibility. If he does win his appeal, Burmeister would join an interesting backup QB battle (assuming Ryan Willis is named the starter soon as expected) with Quincy Patterson and Hendon Hooker that would also be the launch of the Hokies' 2020 starting QB battle. Even if Burmeister loses his appeal, the Oregon transfer would still be involved in the proxy 2020 starting QB battle that should go on throughout the fall and makes him one of the top offensive newcomers to watch regardless of his eligibility this season.
