2022 DE Beau Atkinson has seen his recruitment take off in recent weeks with Virginia Tech recently becoming the third ACC school to offer the rising junior.
Atkinson told us that he was "very excited" to receive a Virginia Tech offer with the Hokies' interest building especially since he visited Blacksburg on March 1st. As he told us, that visit went quite well.
"I visited Virginia Tech earlier this year. I love the campus, and the coaches were awesome," Atkinson said.
On that visit, Atkinson says he enjoyed touring campus and getting a feel for the Virginia Tech fan base. In addition, he spent time getting closer with the coaching staff.
"When I went on the visit, (DL coach Darryl) Tapp was hanging out with me and my family a lot of the time."
In fact, it was Tapp who called Atkinson to inform him of the offer. Atkinson said that was a great and informative conversation for him overall.
"It was great," Atkinson said. "We talked about the defense that they're implementing and where he saw me in that defense."
The high school sophomore has been receiving interest from many ACC schools. He holds other offers from Virginia and Georgia Tech along with the Hokies. He added that other schools including UNC, NC State, Auburn, Duke, Penn State, and Miami have reached out to him. However, it's still quite early in Atkinson's recruitment for him to start having favorites among his offer list.
"I'm still just a sophomore, so I'm keeping my recruitment open," Atkinson said.
Virginia Tech is off to a strong start with Beau Atkinson as the Hokies seem poised to make him a defensive line priority in their 2022 class.
