Virginia Tech added another commitment on offense as three-star RB Jalen Hampton became the latest addition to the Hokies' 2020 class. Hampton chose the Hokies over offers from Boston College, Syracuse, Rutgers, and others. For now, Hampton is the third running back commit in the 2020 class along with fellow three-star RBs Jalen Brunson and CJ Beasley. Hampton is also the first commit from the state of Maryland in the 2020 class. Here's what he had to say about his decision to commit to VT. "It was really the community that sparked everything up, how much energy the whole town brings on gamedays, and I like how it’s a small town. Also, it’s very close to home and I love the staff," Hampton said about why he chose Virginia Tech. It also didn't take Hampton many times visiting Virginia Tech and being around the staff to decide that he was ready to commit to the Hokies now. "Well I’ve been pretty high on VT, and after camp and my second visit, I knew this is where I would want to be at," Hampton said. WRs coach Jafar Williams led the charge in the pursuit of Hampton with the three-star RB mentioning specifically that "he's very easy to talk to" though, as mentioned above, Hampton's reason for choosing Virginia Tech was in part because of the whole staff, not just Jafar Williams. Hampton is quite the intriguing prospect as he ran a 4.46 40 yard dash time at 5'10'' and 194 pounds at The Opening, an impressive feat while his other numbers suggest that the Hokies have landed an excellent athlete with more than just great speed and good size already. Hampton's speed could give the Hokies some options to use him out of the slot or other roles like that at times though Hampton appears to be primarily a tailback first and fits well with the more bruising style of fellow recent VT commit Jordan Brunson.
