Mike Young and Virginia Tech landed one of their top targets this morning as three-star shooting guard Nahiem Alleyne committed to the Hokies at the end of his official visit to VT.
Alleyne joins four-star PG Jalen Cone and three-star combo guard Hunter Cattoor in the Hokies' 2019 class and like Cone, chose to reclassify to 2019 instead of staying in the 2020 class. Alleyne's commitment comes at the end of his visit when he previously was planning on taking a visit to Hofstra
that will not materialize given his decision.
With Alleyne on board, the Hokies still have a trio of open scholarships with one saved for Kerry Blackshear should he decide to return. Outside of that, John Ojiako remains the top high school big man target for one of those spots while the Hokies seem likely to use the final 2 spots on grad transfers with Idaho State's Kelvin Jones and Alonzo Walker
among the top targets especially if Blackshear does not return.
While most had focused on the Hokies' frontcourt needs, Virginia Tech had a major need for depth on the wing with only Landers Nolley and Isaiah Wilkins being true wings on the roster for next season. Alleyne should have a great opportunity to jump into the Hokies' rotation and play some significant minutes next season.
Nahiem Alleyne's Offer List (According to 247 Sports)
- ACC: Virginia Tech
- Big East: St John's
- Big 10: Nebraska
