After arriving at Virginia Tech, two of Mike Young's first offers went to a pair of 2020 teammates from South Carolina, four-star PF PJ Hall and four-star PG Myles Tate.
Since then, Hall and Tate have become two of Virginia Tech's top 2020 targets with the Hokies making the final 5 for Hall.
Virginia Tech was one of three ACC schools to make the cut for Hall along with Clemson and Georgia Tech while Florida and Tennessee also made the cut. The biggest surprise may be the fact that in-state South Carolina failed to make the cut for Hall.
One thing that should help the Hokies is the strong connection that Mike Young has to the South Carolina basketball scene with the high school with Hall's Dorman HS being within 30 minutes of Spartanburg, SC where Young previously coached. That proximity (and likely strong connection) should only help with the familiarity between Hall and Young that could be quite valuable.
Unsurprisingly, Hall's final 5 are the five schools that he plans to take official visits to with Hall set to take his Virginia Tech official in mid-October.
Similar to what we saw during the Buzz Williams era, Mike Young seems poised to prioritze hosting fall official visits on weekends when Virginia Tech football is playing at home, something that has worked well previously for VT. Hall's fall visit schedule also indicates that he could try to make a decision in time to sign during the early fall window though it remains to be seen if that will be the case.
While Hall revealed some big news about his recruitment last night, he's been impressing at the Adidas Guantlet Final averaging almost a double-double.
PJ Hall has clearly emerged as one of the best 2020 big men on the East Coast with the Hokies in a great position in his recruitment as he heads towards his fall official visits.
