The recruiting trail continues to be busy with Virginia Tech looking to build more momentum after landing Jaylen Jones last week especially with Jalen Stroman committing this Friday. Here are some updates on a few other Hokie targets.

3* DB Donovan McMillon

Fast-rising DB Donovan McMillon has emerged as one of Virginia Tech's top defensive priorities with head coach Justin Fuente and defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton taking the lead in his recruitment.

McMillon also made some news today revealing his plans to release a top 5 on June 1st, a sign that McMillon may be getting closer to making a decision.

McMillon was supposed to travel to Virginia Tech for an official visit this month, one that was wiped out by the extension of the dead period through the end of June (and therefore through at least mid July unless the current recruiting calendar is modified). However, McMillon did previously tell us that he was certain about taking an official to Virginia Tech even if his original one had to be postponed.

The Hokies also recently made the top 10 for McMillon with the talented DB having this to say about why VT made the cut.

"VT made the top 10 because I really like the coaching staff and I love where the program's going plus the location as well," McMillon said.

What's clear is that the Hokies are right in the hunt for Donovan McMillon as they continue to be in contact with him "daily" and heavily prioritize him.

3* WR Da'Wain Lofton

Da'Wain Lofton is a Texas recruit that hasn't drawn as much attention from Virginia Tech fans, but the Hokies' coaches are showing lots of interest in the three-star WR who could be emerging as higher target for VT at WR.

Lofton told us that Virginia Tech and Mississippi State are "probably" the two currently recruiting him the hardest. The Texas WR has built a solid offer list to date with the first offer coming from the Hokies and offers from Mississippi State, Colorado, Duke, Washington State, Vanderbilt, Kansas, and others since then.

Lofton is an intriuging slot receiver option after he had a strong 2019 season with at least 1,200 receiving yards and more than 2,200 all-purpose yards according to the three-star WR. Tech has already landed a bigger target in Latrell Neville and a versatile option in Jaylen Jones with Lofton being a potential compliment to the Hokies' current receiver class.

WRs coach Jafar Williams is leading the charge with Lofton telling us that the two have built a "pretty good" relationship over the past few months. That relationship appears to be helping open the door for the Hokies to be a serious contender for Lofton alongside Mississippi State, who seems to be the slight favorite based on the 247 Sports' Crystal Ball.

3* WR Skyler Bell

Skyler Bell was planning on making his decision recently with many believing that Iowa would be the destination if he stayed the course. However, Bell decided to postpone making his decision and slow things down some, opening the door up more for teams like Virginia Tech that made his top 6 along with others like Wisconsin who have offered him more recently.

Virginia Tech has been in contact with Bell "pretty often" with WRs coach Jafar Williams and RBs coach Adam Lechtenberg leading the charge in his recruitment. Because of that, Bell told us that Virginia Tech is "right there" in his recruitment at this point as the Hokies remain a contender in his recruitment.

Bell has shown a willingness to stretch outside of their traditional recruiting territories of the Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast including into New England as we saw with Mike Sainristil a couple years ago and now with their pursuit of Bell and 3* OT Tristan Bounds, who attends school in Connecticut but is from Virginia.

As Virginia Tech looks to add a couple more receivers to an already strong receiver class, keep an eye on Bell especially after deciding to slow down his recruitment.
