Virginia Tech is continuing to send out offers during the late spring/early summer evaluation period with 2021 OL Nate Bruce among the most recent players to receive an offer. "I wouldn’t say I was surprised because I know how hard I been working this offseason especially at the camp, but I definitely was excited. Virginia Tech has always been one of my top schools since the beginning of my recruiting process and I love it down there and the coaching staff. This was a big one for me because it's also my first Power 5 offer," Bruce said. The Hokies have had interest in Bruce for a while starting last year when Bruce first camped with Virginia Tech. "They always were up at my school talking with my coach, talking to me, and they were the first to start recruiting me and get things started. They liked me since I camped with them a year ago for the first time," Bruce said on the interest VT had shown before offering him. Looking ahead, Bruce told us that he is planning on visiting Virginia Tech, Penn State, Temple, and Toledo with the Nittany Lions and Owls being schools that haven't offered Bruce yet. Bruce added that he doesn't have a specific date for visiting Virginia Tech just yet. Bruce has built strong relationships with assistant Adam Lechtenberg, who is among those leading the charge on VT's recruiting in Pennsylvania, and OL coach Vance Vice. While communication is currently limited due to NCAA rules, Bruce has already had the chance to build a strong relationship with Adam Lechtenberg. "We can’t really talk much yet because I’m not a junior yet but when we do get to talk it’s all positive. He’s a real cool guy and was the first coach to start recruiting me. I like him. He’s the type of coach I look for in colleges," Bruce said. Bruce has also been able to build a solid relationship with OL coach Vance Vice. "He’s a great coach and I look forward to working with him. He’s real interested in me and likes my game," Bruce said. Bruce also has a good understanding of his own game recognizing the strengths and weaknesses that clearly were more than favorable enough to receive an offer from the Hokies given where he's currently at in his development. "My strengths are that I'm very physical, relentless, hardworking, and smart. I need to work on finishing blocks, reading defenses, and reading offenses," Bruce said about the strengths and weaknesses of his game. Nate Bruce has emerged as an offensive lineman to watch in a 2021 class where Virginia Tech will be looking to assemble another large, strong offensive line class as they did in 2019.
