Virginia Tech Makes the Top 5 for Three-Star DE Quentin Williams

Quentin Williams has emerged as one of Virginia Tech's top defensive line target in the 2020 class with the Hokies making the top 5 for the three-star defensive end from North Carolina. The Hokies weren't alone from the ACC with three other ACC teams making the cut in Miami, Louisville, and North Carolina while West Virginia was the lone team from outside the ACC to make the top 5. Williams had this to say about why the Hokies were included in his top 5. "I've always liked VT. My visits up there helped a lot. The coaching staff is great and that game atmosphere is incredible," Williams said. Williams' heavy interest in Virginia Tech showed especially this past spring with the talented defensive end making a pair of trips including a second spring visit in April that went "great." Williams added that he was impressed with the "fast paced and competitive" way of practice along with the facilities. With Williams trimming down his list to five, the three-star DE now has a clearer picture as to where he wants to take his official visits. Williams told us that he plans to take officials to the three schools farther away from home in Miami, Louisville, and West Virginia since he hasn't been able to take as many visits there as Virginia Tech and North Carolina. Now it wouldn't be surprising to see Quentin Williams take officials to Virginia Tech and North Carolina, but the Charlotte star has a greater understanding of those 2 programs given the number of his visits he's taken to each and the proximity of both. What is most clear is that Williams is seeing his officials as a way to make it much more affordable to visit the schools he's farther away from that would be difficult for him to visit more often due simply to proximity. While some recruits usually are insistent that their recruitments are still open until they announce a true list of finalists, Williams has a hard time imagining another school being able to gain traction that hasn't offered as he told us when asked about the schools he was hoping to visit soon. "It'll be hard for a school who hasn't offered to creep in," Williams said. Looking ahead, Williams has his eyes set on making a commitment in August before his high school football season starts, giving Virginia Tech and others plenty of opportunities to get Williams back on campus. When Williams does make his decision, it'll come down to his comfort with the program and place. "I want to feel comfortable with everything: the coaches, atmosphere, the city, players... I think I'll just get that feeling," Williams said. For now, Virginia Tech has positioned themselves well in Quentin Williams' recruitment but there is still plenty of work to be done in their pursuit of the talented pass rusher from Charlotte.
