Virginia Tech hosted an impressive collection of talented recruits from the 2020-2023 recruiting classes including three-star LB Will Johnson who had a great day in Blacksburg.
"It was awesome the facilities are nice, and the new facilities will be the top in the country. I had a lot of fun," Johnson said about his visit.
While at Virginia Tech, Johnson got to check out Virginia Tech's campus in full, learn a lot about the football program and university, and have conversations with defensive coordinator Bud Foster and WRs coach Jafar Williams.
Johnson's conversation with Bud Foster went particularly well with Foster being in line to potentially be Johnson's position coach should he choose VT since the Hokies are recruiting him as a linebacker.
"He’s a living legend. He’s arguably the best DC to ever coach. I tried to soak up as much knowledge as I could. It was great talking to him," Johnson said about his conversation with Foster.
Will Johnson also had a great conversation with WRs coach Jafar Williams who also appears to be heavily involved with the Hokies' recruitment of Johnson.
"It was good. He’s new to VT and gave me good advice on how to become a better person and a better player," Johnson said about his conversation with Williams.
Johnson's conversations with the coaching staff also factored in some to what stood out the most from his visit along with the Hokies' hospitality.
"All of the hospitality. They welcomed me in and gave me a great visit. The coaches want to see the person not the player which I find to be a big deal for me so that was good," Johnson said about what stood out.
So how did this visit impact Johnson's recruitment and the standing of VT in his recruitment?
"It opened my eyes towards VT. It was a great visit and I have a tough decision to make later on," Johnson said.
Looking ahead, Johnson told us that he is hoping to take visits to Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Maryland this fall. Additionally, the Hokies and Penn State are currently recruiting Johnson the hardest.
For now, Virginia Tech made a big impact on the recruitment of Will Johnson with the Hokies being a top contender for the talented 2021 athlete.
