5-Star DT Rashan Gary Headlines Virginia Tech's Junior Day Visitors

National Signing Day may have been this past Wednesday, but the Virginia Tech Hokies have a big weekend coming up for Class of 2016 recruiting with their first Junior Day of the spring. Many top juniors from across the country will be visiting Blacksburg for this event, but there is one player that headlines this list of names. The headline name of the recruits that are coming down this weekend is 5-star DT Rashan Gary who is ranked as the top defensive tackle and second best junior in the nation by 247 Sports and Rivals. Gary is also ranked as the second best defensive tackle and eighth best junior by ESPN. The Hokies are definitely not one of the frontrunners to get Gary with Alabama, Ohio State, and Michigan emerging as the early leaders. The Wolverines also just hired his high school coach to a spot within their football department which will definitely help in their recruitment of him. However, this will be a great chance for primary recruiter Cornell Brown and DL coach Charley Wiles to connect with Gary, and build some momentum for him. Connecting with recruits is a huge part of Junior Days, and the Virginia Tech coaches will definitely want to build their relationship with Rashan Gary this weekend. Gary isn't the only big recruit that will be on campus as 4-star WR Tino Ellis will also be making the trip to Blacksburg. Ellis is one of a few wide receivers that will be in Blacksburg on a list that includes 3-star WR Eric Kumah and 3-star WR Samuel Denmark. These three wide receivers have already emerged as three of the Hokies top wide receiver targets, and all three will get the chance to meet the Hokies' new wide receivers coach, Zohn Burden, this weekend. This first in-person impression will likely be very important, but Burden is a sharp recruiter that should connect well with his recruits. No one expected Tim Settle to end up at Virginia Tech last spring, and that is almost the same thing with 4-star DE Kyree Campbell who is also from Northern Virginia. Campbell will be in Blacksburg this weekend and Charley Wiles will definitely look to gain some momentum to prevent him from following 4-star OL Matt Burrell to Ohio State. For Campbell and Gary, they will likely get the chance to talk to Settle who will be in Blacksburg this weekend. Having Settle in Blacksburg with these big time defensive line targets from the Class of 2016 on campus will be a very good thing for the Hokies as Settle will definitely be a valuable extra recruiter this weekend. The Hokies have two top offensive tackle targets from in the state of Virginia coming in J.J. McCargo and Josh Ball. Both of these guys are top 500 guys in the nation and top 20 guys in the state, and Stacy Searels will look to build another strong offensive line class with Ball and McCargo potentially be the center pieces of that group if they end up coming to Virginia Tech. This is a big weekend for the Hokies with many top targets making the trip to Blacksburg beyond the group of recruits listed above. Recruiting doesn't stop, and this Junior Day coming days after National Signing Day is proof of that.
