After last week's ACC Kickoff, the ACC released the media's conference and player of the year predictions with Virginia Tech being picked to finish second in the ACC Coastal. Today, the ACC released the media's picks for their Preseason All-ACC team and multiple Hokies made the list. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/887690520478273538 https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/887688755448086528 Cam Phillips, Wyatt Teller, and Tremaine Edmunds were all named to the Preseason All-ACC team. Virginia Tech's three selections are tied for third-most in the conference with Florida State with Clemson (5) and Miami (4) being the only schools to have more selections. Teller barely made the team by 2 votes over NC State's Tony Adams while Cam Phillips got the last WR spot by 24 votes over Clemson's Hunter Renfrow and Louisville's Jaylen Smith with Tremaine Edmunds beating out Syracuse's Zaire Franklin by 27 votes. Terrell Edmunds was third among safeties but wasn't close with only 19 votes while Joey Slye was third among kickers, and Travon McMillian and Eric Gallo both were fourth at their positions. Greg Stroman and Adonis Alexander were fifth and sixth respectively among cornerbacks and Andrew Motuapuaka was sixth among linebackers with Tim Settle, Vinny Mihota, and Yosuah Nijman all received votes as well. Phillips had an impressive junior season with 76 receptions for 983 receiving yards, 5 receiving touchdowns, and an average of 12.9 yards per reception along with winning Belk Bowl MVP honors. Going into his senior season, Phillips only needs 45 receptions and 905 receiving yards to break Isaiah Ford's career records for receptions and receiving yards, both of which seem quite likely as long as Phillips stays healthy. Wyatt Teller didn't have a great fall camp last year and took a couple weeks to regain his starting job, but was solid after on his way to earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. Teller has always been impressive athletically and as a run blocker but if he can improve as a pass blocker and become a more disciplined player on the field, Teller should not, only be an All-ACC First Team offensive guard but also be a day 2 or early day 3 draft pick. Tremaine Edmunds was impressive as a sophomore with 106 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception, and 3 pass breakups on his way to earning All-ACC Second Team honors. Edmunds has All-American potential as a great athlete with a high football IQ who could be one of the best LBs in VT history. Congrats to Cam Phillips, Wyatt Teller, and Tremaine Edmunds on earning Preseason All-ACC honors.
