Trio of Defensive Linemen Set to Visit Virginia Tech Over the Next 2 Weekends

Editor's Note: This story has been updated as Jaevon Becton has told us he will be visiting VT next weekend, not this weekend.

While Virginia Tech has largely shifted their recruiting focus onto the 2019 class, the Hokies aren't done yet with the 2018 class and have a trio of defensive linemen set to visit over the next two weekends. https://twitter.com/CamBamBiggalo/status/953109520322105344 https://twitter.com/ChatmanJamarcus/status/953615897910038529 https://twitter.com/Jaevoon_23/status/953108358931894272 VT commit Cam Goode and Jamarcus Chatman will be visiting Blacksburg this weekend while Jaevon Becton will be visiting next weekend.. Goode and Becton will be taking official visits while Chatman's is also likely to be an official visit as well. While some have been concerned about Cam Goode decommitting after he decided not to sign with Virginia Tech in December, there appears to be no credibility to those worries whatsoever. Goode impressed at the Under Armour All-America Game and is currently set to sign with the Hokies in February. Goode is currently ranked as the 55th best DT by Rivals and ESPN, 52nd best by the 247 Sports Composite, and 50th best by 247 Sports. However, it wouldn't be surprising to see those rankings improve after his strong Under Armour All-America Game. Jamarcus Chatman decommitted from Tennessee in December and took an official visit to UNC. Chatman was scheduled to take an official to Florida State this weekend according to 247 Sports, but now will be in Blacksburg this weekend instead. Chatman hadn't been a name that there was a lot of talk around, but the Hokies appear to have quietly moved into contention, bumping the Seminoles out-of-the-way for an official visit. The Hokies do have an interesting connection with Chatman via freshman LB Jaylen Griffin who was previously a teammate of Chatman's at Rome High School in Georgia. This connection could be beneficial for the Hokies as VT looks to add Chatman to their 2018 class. Unfortunately, the Hokies won't have the last visit as Chatman is set to take an official to Michigan State next weekend. Chatman is well-regarded across the board as ESPN has him as a four-star recruit ranked 271st overall. Chatman is also one of the top 40 recruits in the state of Georgia by ESPN and 247 Sports. 247 Sports ranks him as the 27th best DT while the 247 Sports Composite ranks him as the 29th best DT. ESPN has Chatman as the 26th best DE in the country and Rivals ranks him 36th among strongside DEs. Since he decommitted from Georgia, the Hokies have shown interest in three-star 757 Jaevon Becton. At 6'4'' and almost 248 pounds according to 247 Sports, Becton has the size to play either DE or DT with his first position possibly dependent on how the Hokies close out this class if he does choose the Hokies. Becton is ranked as the 53rd best DE by ESPN, 53rd best weakside DE by the 247 Sports Composite, and the 86th best weakside DE by 247 Sports. Rivals and ESPN also have Becton as the 15th best recruit in the state of Virginia. Right now, this appears to be a two-school battle between the Hokies and Tennessee with both schools showing plenty of interest. VT will also have the final official visit at this point with Becton telling us that he won't be visiting any schools this weekend. 2018 recruiting isn't done yet as Virginia Tech hosts a trio of talented defensive linemen over the next two weekends. With Cam Goode already committed, the Hokies are hoping that they can hold on to Goode and add at least one of these two talented defensive linemen.
