2020 Four-Star WR Rakim Jarrett Recaps His Great Junior Day Visit to Virginia Tech

Rakim Jarrett 2018 Junior Day 1
Rakim Jarrett is already regarded as one of the best recruits in the 2020 class with 247 Sports ranking him as the 69th best sophomore, 16th best WR, and second best recruit in Washington D.C. Jarrett is also one of the top WR targets for the Hokies out of a St John's College HS that VT is looking to make a pipeline after gaining a commitment from Cam Goode in the 2018 class. Jarrett visited Blacksburg this past weekend and recapped his visit with us. When we asked Rakim Jarrett about his visit, he told us that "it was great. I learned a lot about the academic side of VT, and that’s interesting because the coaches emphasized the importance of getting a good education and that it's more than just coming to play football." When we asked Jarrett about what else stood out about his visit, he told us that "the campus definitely did! How the university ranks amongst others in terms of academics and what the university has to offer after you graduate also stood out. It’s like going to VT for four years sets you up for 40." Jarrett also told us that this visit "definitely opened my eyes." Rakim Jarrett said that Virginia Tech and Penn State are recruiting him the hardest despite the fact that the Nittany Lions haven't offered him yet. Jarrett is hoping to return to Blacksburg sometime this spring with the Spring Game being a possible return date while also looking to take a visit to Penn State. Jarrett has a solid offer list that already includes multiple power 5 schools:
  • ACC: Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Syracuse, Virginia, North Carolina
  • Big 10: Maryland, Rutgers
  • AAC: Temple
It may be early, but the Hokies have already positioned themselves extremely well in Jarrett's recruitment. Right now, Virginia Tech is the early frontrunner in the talented four-star wide receiver's recruitment with VT making Jarrett a clear priority above all others who have offered him. However, Penn State would likely become a major contender if they offered Jarrett. If they do, Jarrett's recruitment is setting up to be a Virginia Tech-Penn State battle. Maryland didn't receive any mention from Jarrett, but the Terps could be a sleeper given their proximity to home. Virginia Tech has lots of momentum for talented WR Rakim Jarrett after a "great" visit that has Jarrett planning to make a Blacksburg return this spring.
