2020 Five-Star LB Mekhail Sherman Breaks Down His New Virginia Tech Offer

Andrew Motuapuaka 1
St John's College High School in Washington D.C. has one of the Mid-Atlantic's top high school football programs producing plenty of talented recruits including Virginia Tech signee Cam Goode. Looking ahead to the Class of 2020, St John's may have their best group of talent yet with borderline five-star Mekhail Sherman, and four-star recruits Rakim Jarrett and Luke Hill. While the Hokies have been in pursuit of Jarrett and Hill for a while, the Hokies have recently decided to become more involved in Sherman's recruitment. https://twitter.com/JuicedUpK9/status/984847541677281280 The Hokies extended an offer to Mekhail Sherman last Friday with Vanderbilt also offering Sherman on that day. Sherman said that he had an "intuition" about an offer coming soon from Virginia Tech. So how much of an impact does a VT offer have on Sherman's recruitment? "A lot actually, I have another great opportunity to go to a great school that is only 4 hours away from home which is pretty convenient." Sherman did tell us that while some schools are starting to stand out to him, he won't really be able to have a "valid answer" until sometime over the summer at the earliest. Sherman told us that he hopes to take a visit to Virginia Tech along with visits to Clemson, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Michigan. He has visits scheduled to Penn State on May 5th and Georgia on May 11th-12th. Sherman is a very intriguing recruit with impressive size at 6'3'' and 234 pounds according to 247 Sports. Though Sherman is listed as a linebacker by 247 Sports and Rivals, Sherman's size gives him the versatility to move to defensive end if he continues to get bigger. VT also has shown that they can take advantage of having a linebacker with elite size after 6'5'', 250-pound Tremaine Edmunds shined in Bud Foster's defense and is likely to be a top 10 pick this spring. For now, the Hokies have their eyes set on trying to get Mekhail Sherman on campus sometime this summer after offering him last week as they seek to become more involved in his recruitment.

Mekhail Sherman in the Recruiting Rankings

Sherman is ranked as the 25th best recruit, 3rd best OLB, and top recruit in Washington D.C. in the 2020 class by 247 Sports. Rivals currently has Sherman rated as a five-star recruit while 247 Sports rates him as a high four-star recruit.
