Virginia Tech-East Carolina Game Cancelled Due to Hurricane Florence

East Carolina announced earlier today that their football team will not be travelling to Blacksburg this weekend, cancelling the previously scheduled game between Virginia Tech and East Carolina due to Hurricane Florence. https://twitter.com/ECUAthletics/status/1039616585797906433 East Carolina also stated that it hopes to be able to reschedule the game though Virginia Tech and ECU do not share a bye week, making a rescheduled game unlikely game. Virginia Tech AD Whit Babcock had previously stated that Virginia Tech was planning on releasing an update on Wednesday regarding Saturday's game, but ECU decided not to wait regarding this weekend's game. Reports have emerged that VT was hoping to wait till Wednesday to see how the forecast developed before making a final decision, but East Carolina decided to no longer wait after cancelling classes for the rest of the week beginning at noon today. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/1039617240440688640 Per Mike Barber of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Whit Babcock made this statement on ECU's decision to not travel and on ECU's choice of today for that decision. https://twitter.com/RTD_MikeBarber/status/1039622640162496514 Based on Babcock's comments and other reports, it appears that East Carolina decided to make this decision today was independent of its consultation with Virginia Tech. Virginia moved its home game against Ohio to Nashville while the kickoff time for Wake Forest-Boston College has been moved up to 5:30pm.
