During the ACC teleconference, Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente addressed the status of defensive end Houshun Gaines for Saturday's game against Notre Dame after the passing of Gaines' mother earlier this week.
"I anticipate that he'll be available on Saturday. He's handled it as well as you could expect. I think House has found some refuge with his coaches and teammates during a troubling, difficult time for him personally," Fuente said.
It's unknown how much time Gaines has taken away from Blacksburg to be with his family during this difficult time. Whatever his decision is will be deserving of respect whether that's to play Saturday or if he needs more time away to go through the grieving process.
If Gaines does play, he'll enter this game coming off one of the best performances of his career after having 2.5 sacks in VT's win over Duke.
