Powell told us that the Hokies’ offer was “very surprising” to him and that he believes this offer will help him gain more attention. With this offer, the Hokies became the fourth program to offer Powell including the third from the ACC.
Currently, Powell doesn’t have a leader in his recruitment, but he did tell us that Duke was recruiting him the hardest before the Hokies offered him. However, that may start to change starting this weekend with Powell set to visit Virginia Tech this weekend for what is one of the biggest recruiting weekends for VT in recent memory.

In addition, Powell told us that he will be visiting North Carolina next weekend (when they face VT), hopes to visit South Carolina soon, and visited Virginia earlier this fall.
The Hokies were the first in-state program to offer him, and Powell told us that he has “a lot” of interest in having the chance to stay in his home state to play college football.
Virginia Tech may have surprised Antwaun Powell with an offer earlier this week, but it’s clear that the Hokies are quite interested in the 757 defensive end.
