Virginia Tech Among Four Standing Out For 2020 Three-Star DE Antwaun Powell

Antwaun Powell has emerged as one of the top 757 recruits in the 2020 class with Virginia Tech among the ACC schools standing out for him. Virginia Tech is one of four schools standing out for Powell alongside Virginia, Duke, and Pittsburgh. Powell had this to say on why the Hokies are standing out for him. "It's close to home and they show a lot of love," Powell said. Looking ahead, Powell told us that the only visit he currently has scheduled is January 19th to Virginia Tech. This comes after Powell took multiple visits this past fall including a trip to Blacksburg for the Hokies' game against Notre Dame along with visits to South Carolina, Virginia, and Duke. When the Hokies do host Powell, they'll have a great chance to leave a strong impression on a talented DE that seems poised to have his recruitment take off after having 68 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks this past season. Given that productivity, Powell described his style of play as this. "I'm fast and very aggressive pass rusher that can stop the run," Powell said. One thing that should benefit the Hokies is the fact that Antwaun Powell has built a "good" relationship with both DL coach Charley Wiles and primary recruiter Zohn Burden. In addition, having the chance to play in-state does have a positive impact for the Hokies. "A good amount because that means family can visit," Powell said on how much of an impact being able to play in-state has on his recruitment. Looking ahead, Powell told us that he feels South Carolina may be the closest to offering him next. In addition, Powell told us that he doesn't have a timeframe for cutting down his list or making a decision just yet. Whenever Antwaun Powell does start to enter the final stages of his recruitment, Virginia Tech seems poised to be a top contender for one of the 757's top 2020 recruits.
