News broke earlier today that Virginia Tech WRs coach Holmon Wiggins is a "strong candidate" for the WRs coach position at Alabama according to Matt Zenitz of AL.com. https://twitter.com/mzenitz/status/1087397015590526976 Additionally, Kyle Henderson of Bama Insider is reporting that the Hokies' assistant will interview in Tuscaloosa later this week. https://twitter.com/Rivals_Kyle/status/1087411428678619136 Former Alabama WR Lance Taylor is also being considered for the job according to Touchdown Alabama Magazine. Taylor was most recently the WRs coach for the Carolina Panthers for two seasons after spending three years as the RBs coach for Stanford. Holmon Wiggins has spent the past seven seasons on Justin Fuente's staff at Memphis and Virginia Tech as Fuente's WRs coach. During his time in Blacksburg, Wiggins has helped build the Hokies' WR corps into arguably the strongest and deepest position on the team. Additionally, Wiggins oversaw Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips break school records during their final seasons in Blacksburg along with Damon Hazelton earning Second Team All-ACC honors this past season. Wiggins may not always be the primary recruiter, but he has undoubtedly had a significant role in the Hokies' strong recruiting of wide receivers including highly-regarded four-star recruits like Tre Turner and Jaden Payoute. What's been clear for a while is that Wiggins has a bright future as a talented position coach and recruiter who has the talent and potential to be an offensive coordinator and possibly a head coach in the not too distant future. Keeping Wiggins may be a challenge for the Hokies, but if they can do so, it would be a major coup to continue to build upon the Hokies' deepest wide receiver corps in recent memory loaded with potential stars like Turner and Hazelton.
