Tyreem Powell, a 2020 ATH/LB target for Virginia Tech, visited Blacksburg this past weekend and left campus impressed by all aspects, especially the coaching staff.

“My Virginia Tech visit was great,” said Powell. “Love the campus, the coaching staff, and the vibe the team and coaches have.”
In particular, Powell says he was able to improve his relationship with cornerbacks’ coach Brian Mitchell and defensive graduate assistant Zach Sparber.
“Me and Coach Mitchell are getting to know each other better day by day,” he said. “He’s a great coach and a better person. During this visit, I believe our relationship grew more.” Powell says the time he spent with Bud Foster and Justin Fuente was also very positive.
“Coach Foster said he loved my film and [to] keep playing physical and hard,” he said.
Justin Fuente also made his desire to have Powell be a Hokie quite clear as well in the time they spent together.
“It was great. We had a nice meeting that went well. He said he loved my film and loved how I play, and that I’m someone they want in their program,” Powell said.
Another aspect of Virginia Tech that stuck out to Powell was the passion of their fan base. He mentioned that attending the Virginia Tech basketball game against Syracuse allowed him to experience this first hand.
As of right now, Powell says he has not narrowed down his list. He currently holds offers from Virginia Tech, Temple, and Rutgers, while other schools such as Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and UConn have shown interest, according to Bobby Deren of 247 Sports.
Powell says he does not currently have any other visits scheduled, but he “plans on going on more.” As recruiting for the 2020 class starts to ramp up, he will undoubtedly start to get busier.
“I’ll definitely have a decision before my senior year,” Powell says. He adds that while he cannot currently pick a leader is a recruitment, the Hokies have been recruiting him the hardest. While Powell sets the start of his senior year as the deadline, he told us that he is considering making a decision “soon.”
For now, the Hokies are in great shape for Tyreem Powell who has clearly emerged as a top 2020 LB target.
