Three-Star CB Andru Phillips Recaps Virginia Tech Junior Day Offer and Visit

Defense 1
Andru Phillips had a day to remember yesterday as the three-star cornerback visited Virginia Tech for their third Junior Day of 2019 and received a scholarship offer directly from Justin Fuente. https://twitter.com/AndruPhillips/status/1094372905394360322 "I was so happy I just hugged coach Fuente and said thank you. I’ve been wanting this offer for so long," Phillips said about his reaction to receiving a Virginia Tech offer. This came as part of an extended conversation with head coach Justin Fuente that went quite well. "It was great. Overall, we had a good long talk and really got to know each other a lot more. I can tell he is a very honest man and he means what he says," Phillips said. While the offer was the high point of Phillips' time in Blacksburg, his visit as a whole went quite well. "It was great, they showed us the facilities and what they’re about to do with them. The future looks real bright for the program," Phillips said. During his visit, Andru Phillips was able to tour both the athletic facilities and Virginia Tech's campus in addition to spending lots of time with the coaching staff. In addition to his offer, the Hokies' coaching staff's interest in him stood out to Phillips. "How much love the coaches were showing. Almost every coach came up to me and told me how much they love how I play," Phillips said about what stood out to him.

So how did this offer and visit impact Phillips' recruitment?

"This was very big for me I’ve been waiting for the offer and have had a lot of interest in the school they’ll definitely be towards the top of my options," Phillips said.

Phillips also added that he'll be releasing his top 3 "in about a month or so" and told us that Virginia Tech is a lock to be included on it.

So why are the Hokies already a lock to make the top 3 for Phillips?

"Because it has so much tradition and overall, it is a great school. I’d love to be a part of it and be a part of DBU," Phillips said.

Phillips added that Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Kentucky are among the schools currently recruiting him the hardest with Phillips having a visit to Clemson scheduled for March 9th followed two weeks later by a trip to East Carolina.

While Phillips only has 9 offers at the moment, he seems poised to add more offers soon with Clemson being seen by Phillips as the team that is most likely to offer him next.

Virginia Tech made it clear yesterday than Andru Phillips is a top target at cornerback with the three-star CB being impressed during his time in Blacksburg.
