Virginia Tech has had some success recruiting in Tennessee over the past couple years with four-star OT Brycen Sanders emerging as a top target from Tennessee in the 2023 class. Tech has laid a strong groundwork so far and will have a big chance to improve on that next weekend.
Sanders has told us that he will be visiting Blacksburg for the Hokies' game against Notre Dame in what will be his first visit to Virginia Tech. This will be his fourth visit so far this fall as he has already taken visits to Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Georgia with visits to Ohio State, Auburn, and Ole Miss still on his calendar.
This comes as Sanders tells us that Virginia Tech is among those recruiting him the hardest currently along with Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Auburn, and Kentucky.
Offensive line coach Vance Vice and RBs coach Adam Lechtenberg have been leading the charge in his recruitment. Lechtenberg was the one who started it all and has built up a strong relationship with Sanders as he told us.
"He was the first coach to recruit me at VT and he’s the one that offered me, so me and him have a good relationship," Sanders said.
Since then, Vance Vice has also built up a "pretty good" relationship with Sanders with the talented Tennessean adding this on why their relationship is good.
"He’s a good coach and I love the philosophy he’s instilled at Tech," Sanders said.
Looking ahead to his visit next week, Sanders has shared with us a few things that he'll be focused on for his visit.
"The campus, getting to see the coaches in person, and the atmosphere at the game," Sanders said.
Overall, Tech is currently in a good position but next week presents a great opportunity to make a big move as Sanders shared with us.
"They're a school I’m definitely looking at, and I will get a better feel next Saturday."
