The Hokies added their third commit to the Class of 2027 with defensive end Xavier Perkins of C.E. Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina. The 6-foot-2 240-pound edge rusher committed after visiting Blacksburg last weekend.
In eight games during the 2025 season, he racked up 24 tackles (9 TFL), 26 hurries, 6 sacks, and 2 pass break-ups.
Rated a 3-star recruit by 247 and On3, Perkins committed to Virginia Tech after receiving offers from Miami, Louisville, Duke, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Ole Miss, among others, according to 247Sports.
With Perkins' commitment, Virginia Tech continued to emphasize the trenches during James Franklin's first two recruiting cycles. The 2026 class included numerous players on both the offensive and defensive lines. Currently, the Hokies have 24 players in the defensive line room, likely indicating future redshirts and increased competition for Sean Spencer's unit, both of which are hallmarks of Franklin's coaching philosophy.
