Virginia Tech Wrestling has landed lots of big-time recruits under Tony Robie including Jimmy Mullen and TJ Stewart among the most recent five-star level talents. However, October 4th, 2025 will now be remembered as the day of Virginia Tech Wrestling’s greatest recruiting victory in program history.
Bo Bassett, considered a top 2 overall wrestler in the 2026 class, and Melvin Miller, the #1 overall recruit in the 2027 class, have both committed to Virginia Tech. Bassett and Miller are two of the best overall wrestling prospects and both are more than capable of being instant starters who can compete for national championships throughout their collegiate career.
Just about every school was pursuing Bassett and Miller with Nebraska being the most serious challenger for both. Bassett was also committed to Iowa at one point in this recruiting cycle.
Bassett’s commitment is massive and gives the Hokies an obvious heir to 2024 national champion Caleb Henson at 149. He has all the makings of a future national champion who can instantly compete to be an All-American and even push for a national title as a freshman.
Miller will also be an instant starter in the middleweights who has all the makings to become a future national champion.
Landing both of these guys is massive and will elevate VT further into potentially the strongest challenger to Penn State’s reign of dominance over collegiate wrestling. Add them into a roster that will also include the likes of Jimmy Mullen and Aaron Seidel during their time in Blacksburg and it’s a recipe for VT to have a chance at making a strong push to end Penn State’s dominant reign over collegiate wrestling and win a national title.
We will have more as this story develops.
