Virginia Tech found their lead running back for 2025 as Bowling Green standout Terion Stewart has committed to Virginia Tech as first reported by 247 Sports’ Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz.

Stewart is the second transfer addition of this cycle for the Hokies along with Clemson S Sherrod Covil Jr. He has one year of eligibility remaining and immediately projects to be the starting running back for the Hokies in 2025.

Stewart ran for 890 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 5.6 yards per carry, breaking 63 tackles, and averaging 4.16 yards per carry after contact in only 10 games this past season. His production was a big reason why Bowling Green was able to have their second-straight winning season for the first time since Dino Babers was the coach in 2014-15 as part of a four-year streak started by Dave Clawson in 2012.

His PFF grades are also strong as he earned a 78.9 PFF grade this season after earning an insane 95.3 PFF grade in a 2023 season where he ran for 753 yards and eight touchdowns while breaking 78 tackles and averaging 4.81 yards after contact.

Unsurprisingly, Stewart had tons of major suitors at the Power 4 level including USC as noted by On3’s Pete Nakos.

Stewart not only has the production, but the advanced numbers show that he is a physical runner with a knack for breaking tackles and generating chunk plays (141 missed tackles and 59 10+ yard runs over the past two seasons) that should make a very productive Power 4 running back. He instantly can be projected as the starter and has the potential to make a Bhayshul Tuten type impact given his dominance at the lower levels.

He also provides a great veteran bridge to the next wave of Jeremiah Coney, Jeff Overton Jr, and Tyler Mason. All three of those should have plenty of opportunity to battle each other and PJ Prioleau for the top backup job behind Stewart.

This is a home run pickup for the Hokies at running back, with all indicators being that Stewart is more than ready to make this jump and even be an All-ACC playmaker in his one season with the Hokies.
