With Cam Phillips and CJ Carroll being the only returning wide receivers who had double-digit receptions last season, Virginia Tech is looking for young wide receivers to step up including Caleb Farley who the Hokies moved permanently to wide receiver this summer after he split time at WR and CB this spring.
Unfortunately, the Hokies will be without one of the most talented true freshman on their roster, hurting the Hokies' WR depth.
Virginia Tech has announced that Caleb Farley is out for the season with a knee injury according to Justin Fuente. This is a tough loss for the Hokies' WR depth with Farley being expected to have a significant role and compete for a starting role. Instead, Farley will take a redshirt due to this injury with it being too soon to tell whether Farley will be able to return this spring.
Here's Justin Fuente's statement on Caleb Farley's injury.
"Unfortunately, along those lines, it looks like we lost Caleb Farley for the year to a knee injury. Our medical team will do a great job, getting him back and ready to go, non-contact injury that happened in the first practice. Caleb (Farley) is an incredibly hard worker, a good young man always going to work hard to get back, has a lot of support from his teammates and his coaches." "Caleb (Farley) is doing really well. He is a strong spirited young man with a great family. I hurt for our players whenever they are injured. I know how heard they work and how important it is and unfortunately, it is a part of the game. You hate when it happens especially when it's a non-contact either. My first thought is always player and making sure we handle the communication with his family right. I have a mom and I know that if she heard I was injured, I know what the reaction would be and make sure we do a great job communicating.
