Virginia Tech has been busy landing transfer commitments today including one from Division II standout RB Marcellous Hawkins out of Central Missouri.
Hawkins became the third of now four transfer portal additions for the Hokies along with Clemson S Sherrod Covil Jr, Bowling Green RB Terion Stewart, and Hampton DL Jahzari Priester. He has at least two years of eligibility remaining and likely can get a third via a medical redshirt after playing only three games in 2024.
While injuries limited Hawkins in 2024, he had a strong redshirt freshman season in 2024 with 1,053 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns while averaging 6.7 yards per carry plus 32 catches for 283 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Hawkins now joins a fascinating competition for the backup reps behind Terion Stewart. It probably is too early to call a favorite for that looming battle between him, Jeremiah Coney, PJ Prioleau, and Jeff Overton Jr in what is a deep RB room for the Hokies.
