Cole Beck Commits to Virginia Tech

Since offering Cole Beck on August 5th, the Hokies have made him a priority even with numbers being tight. Virginia Tech hosted Beck last Saturday for an unofficial visit that Beck said was "awesome." After that visit, Beck was ready to make his commitment. Tonight, Beck announced his decision and chose to stay home. Three-star RB and Blacksburg star Cole Beck announced that he has committed to Virginia Tech over North Carolina and Pittsburgh. Beck is Virginia Tech's second in-state commit of the 2018 class alongside three-star ATH Armani Chatman, and second RB commit along with three-star RB Caleb Steward. Beck has a solid offer list that includes Louisville, Mississippi State, Boston College, Virginia, UCF, Temple, East Carolina, and more in addition to his final 3. Cole Beck is also fairly well-regarded nationally as 247 Sports ranks him as the tenth best all-purpose back, and the 247 Sports Composite has him 15th. Beck is also among the best in Virginia with Rivals ranking him 17th in the Commonwealth, the 247 Sports Composite ranking him 15th, and 247 Sports ranking him tenth. As soon as the Hokies decided to offer Beck, he became a must-get given the fact that he is from Blacksburg. Keeping Beck home was something the Hokies needed to, and they did a great job making up any ground that they may have lost from offering Beck months after UNC and Pittsburgh offered him. Beck is a great get for the Hokies not only in football, but also in track and field where he should come in and immediately be one of the ACC's top sprinters. Beck has fantastic speed that can break games open and could be a dangerous weapon in the backfield down the road. In the short-term, Beck seems likely to redshirt as a freshman for football, especially with VT not having a single on-scholarship RB graduating after this season. In the long run, Beck projects as a speed back who has the frame and size to grow into being an in-between the tackles guy. Beck's speed also makes him a potential kick or punt returner in a couple of years. Congrats to Cole Beck on his commitment to Virginia Tech.
