James Djonkam appeared in three games this year for the Hokies after transferring from Eastern Michigan. He also had previous stops at Arizona State and in the community college ranks before landing at Virginia Tech.
In the three games he appeared in, Djonkam recorded seven tackles. He had a 61.3 overall grade and a 60.3 pass rush grade in his time at Virginia Tech. He is out of eligibility unless he can find a way to sue for a waiver at this point.
Burgos played in 40 career games over his four seasons in Blacksburg, where he tallied 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles among his 57 total tackles.
In four games this season, Burgos had a 57.9 overall defensive grade with a 71.3 pass rush grade. He has a redshirt available to him and likely will use that before transferring to another program for the 2026 season.
Virginia Tech was playing with an already thin defensive line room, and it just got much thinner with these departures.
Ben Bell and Elhadj Fall will be the full-time starters moving forward while Aycen Stevens, James Jennette, and Jason Abbey likely all take on larger roles.
