The Virginia Tech Hokies have made defensive tackle a high priority in the Class of 2018 sending out tons of offers while looking to bring in at least 2 true defensive tackles with three likely being the target number. So far, the Hokies have gained traction with a few talented defensive tackle recruits and now, the Hokies have gained a defensive tackle commitment.
Defensive tackle Joe Kane out of Wake Forest, North Carolina announced this evening that he has committed to Virginia Tech. Kane's recruitment took off this spring as he gained a good amount of offers including a few power 5 offers from Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Wake Forest while being ranked as the 35th best recruit in North Carolina according to the 247 Sports Composite. Joe Kane has the size to be a DT at around 6'3'' and 265 pounds though we have heard that Kane could also end up at offensive guard though that may depend on how this class turns out for the Hokies at defensive tackle and offensive line.
Charley Wiles was the primary recruiter for the Hokies and did a great job leading the charge to gain a commitment from the three-star defensive tackle after offering him on a Junior Day 20 days earlier when his recruitment blew up some while also beating out in-state Wake Forest. While Kane may not be the flashiest name, he is a quality recruit that definitely helps gives the Hokies more momentum with their #NC2VT movement with Kane having a respectable offer list and giving the Hokies someone who can help recruit in the state of North Carolina that is a high priority for Virginia Tech with the Class of 2018.
