There may not have been a bigger transfer portal target for the Hokies than Duke All-ACC DT Aeneas Peebles. Though the competition was tough, Virginia Tech has gotten the job done to land his commitment.

Peebles has chosen the Hokies over lots of Power to interest including Louisville, Penn State, Missouri, Colorado, SMU, and more having taken visits to VT, Louisville, Missouri, and SMU at minimum. He will have one year of eligibility remaining and is unsurprisingly projected to start at defensive tackle for Tech in 2024.
Peebles was one of the best defensive tackles in the ACC this past season with 40 tackles including 8.5 for loss with four sacks plus one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups on his way to earning All-ACC Third Team honors.
This is a massive recruiting victory in the transfer portal for the Hokies to say the least. Peebles is one of the few Power 5 proven defensive tackles alongside Walter Nolen of Texas A&M available in the transfer portal this cycle. To land a player of his proven quality at the highest levels of college football is a heck of a get for the Hokies, especially given the need Tech had at DT.
DL coach J.C. Price had some questions about his recruiting ability in the past, but those questions have been answered over the past year or so, especially in the transfer portal starting with Antwaun Powell-Ryland and continuing with Peebles now.
