FIU DB Transfer Demetrius Hill Visiting Virginia Tech Today

Cheerleaders 1 VT Wofford TS

FIU starting DB transfer and 2022 Freshman All-American Demetrius Hill announced on social media yesterday that he is taking a visit to Virginia Tech today.

After redshirting during the 2021 season, the Miami native was a star for hometown FIU this past season with 95 tackles including 3.5 for loss with 1 sack plus 1 interception, 2 pass breakups, and 3 forced fumbles. That production helped him earn Freshman All-American honors from the Football Writers Association of America and College Football News.

Hill fits the profile of a strong safety as a quality tackler in space and a good run defender who can be effective out of the box. Hill would be a good fit on the Hokies' depth chart due in large part to that as Nasir Peoples profiles as more of that strong safety for 2023 with Hill potentially being a 2024 replacement and beyond while Jalen Stroman is more of a free safety with other young talents like Braylon Johnson along with former WR Jaylen Jones fitting more at free safety.

Tech may not have a path to starting for Hill in 2023, but he absolutely could be the third safety for the Hokies this season before winning a starting job for the 2024 season.

Looking ahead, Hill told us that he is looking at taking some other visits beyond a trip to Blacksburg including one to Georgia Tech though his VT visit is the only scheduled one currently. Other schools that are know to be involved with Hill via publicly reported offers include Memphis, UAB, UNLV, and Charlotte.

This is definitely a great chance for the Hokies to impress one of their top DB transfer portal targets with a chance to try to close the door on his recruitment if the visit goes well enough.
